Sr. R&D Engineer
Description: R&D Engineer for the Extrusion Blow Molding Industry. Provides R&D services and works with vendors, consultants, and inside and outside resources to meet assigned R&D objectives. Works to hone, develop and train Processors in the running of new equipment and processes. Works with other departments to establish viable project estimates, including projected scope and schedule. Conducts risk assessments of projects to determine the degree of risk to meet budgets, schedules, and specifications. Creates conceptual designs and prepares specifications for new R&D projects as well as assisting the R&D Manager in identifying new technologies and the opportunities they may create for GEC. Performs required analyses to ensure the attainment of all project specifications. Manages the creation of required detailed drawings, assemblies, and sub-assemblies needed for the procurement, manufacture and assembly of components. Works with Purchasing to develop vendor specifications for out-sourced materials. Continues to provide technical support to all other departments during procurement, assembly, testing and final acceptance of equipment. Works with customers to aid in the design of new Blow Molded products for the packaging industry. Select or conform most suitable machinery, design and specify molds and related tooling for production of product. Works with mold builder as technical advisor to establish mold specification, design mold layouts, and aid in developing production schedule and budget. Observes unit cavity and production mold set trials to help establish process conditions that are reproducible and consistent to insure that the process is capable within limits acceptable to the customer and GEC. These trials should employ SPC methods to establish Cpk values for measurable properties.
Requirements: The preferred candidate must be able to demonstrate the following skills:
• Proficient use of various computer softwares, including MS Office, 2D and 3D CAD experience.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Strong understanding of blow molding technology, including both theoretical and practical engineering concepts for the   packaging industry.
• Proven ability to handle detailed information with high confidentiality.
• Physical and medical standards for this position must be met by the incumbent passing a physical examination by a
  company approved physician.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years relevant engineering experience.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering.
